Good scarf care starts with knowing what you own. Jersey describes a knitted fabric construction, not one fixed fibre blend. Two jersey hijabs can therefore need different washing or ironing settings. Always follow the care label and the guidance supplied for your particular scarf.

If the fabric composition or care instructions are unclear, ask before washing. A gentle routine is a useful principle, but it does not replace the manufacturer’s instructions.

Check before the first wash

Read the label, remove any pins or accessories and look for loose threads or snags. Separate colours as appropriate and avoid washing a delicate scarf with items that have exposed hooks, rough fastenings or abrasive trims.

Do not assume a new dark or bright scarf is colourfast. Follow any first-wash instructions and keep it separate from lighter pieces when the guidance calls for it. If you are unsure about a HijabVerse item, contact us with the product name.

Wash with gentle handling

Where the care instructions allow hand washing, use the recommended water temperature and a suitable detergent. Move the scarf gently through the water rather than rubbing or scrubbing it. Rinse according to the detergent and care guidance.

If machine washing is permitted, follow the stated cycle and temperature. A suitable laundry bag can help keep the scarf separate from fastenings, but it does not make an unsuitable washing cycle safe. Avoid adding bleach or other treatments unless the care instructions specifically permit them.

Dry without pulling the scarf out of shape

A wet knit can be easier to stretch. Avoid twisting or wringing it forcefully. Support the fabric as you lift it, then use the drying method stated on the label. If flat drying is recommended, reshape it gently on a suitable surface rather than hanging it by one corner.

Do not tumble dry or apply direct heat unless permitted. Let the scarf dry completely before storing it so it is ready for its next wear.

Be cautious with steam and ironing

Ironing requirements depend on the fibre blend. Check the label before using an iron or steamer, use only a permitted setting and avoid pressing against decorative details. When in doubt, ask for care advice rather than testing a high heat setting on a visible area.

Store your hijabs with less friction

  • Fold clean, dry scarves gently and keep them away from rough surfaces.
  • Remove pins and fastenings before putting a scarf away.
  • Avoid tightly cramming the fabric into an overfilled drawer.
  • Check jewellery and bag hardware if you notice repeated snags.

If a thread catches, avoid pulling it further. The right repair depends on the fabric and the type of snag.
